The Luminary

St. Louis, MO

The Luminary is a nonprofit contemporary arts center in St. Louis, Missouri, dedicated to experimental and interdisciplinary visual art, with a particular focus on fostering critical dialogue on social, political, and environmental issues. Through exhibitions, residencies, publications, and public programs, The Luminary supports artists whose practices challenge conventions and imagine alternative futures. The organization's 17,000-square-foot facility in south St. Louis serves as a hub for the region's contemporary arts community.

An FCI Scoping Grant, awarded as part of the 2026 St. Louis Counterpublic triennial cohort, will support a comprehensive energy audit, electrification feasibility study, and rooftop solar analysis for The Luminary's facility. The study will develop a phased capital roadmap to reduce the organization's fossil fuel dependency and position The Luminary for implementation-phase investments in renewable energy and high-efficiency systems.
