Mattress Factory

The Mattress Factory is a contemporary art museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, known internationally for its site-specific installations created by artists in residence. Founded in 1977, the museum occupies a complex of historic buildings in Pittsburgh's Mexican War Streets neighborhood, presenting permanent and temporary works that have fundamentally shaped the discourse around installation and immersive art. MF is planning a major renovation to mark its 50th anniversary. A 2026 FCI Scoping Grant will support a comprehensive energy assessment of the museum's two core Pittsburgh buildings, establishing a baseline and phased implementation roadmap. The assessment will identify priority capital investments for reducing energy consumption and emissions across the museum's historic and purpose-built spaces.
