The Walters Art Museum

Baltimore, MD

The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, presents a comprehensive history of art from ancient Egypt through the early twentieth century, with a permanent collection of more than 36,000 objects spanning five millennia. Founded through the gifts of William and Henry Walters and free to the public since 1934, the museum serves as a major cultural institution for the Baltimore region. Its campus comprises three interconnected buildings in Baltimore's historic Mount Vernon neighborhood: the 1909 palazzo-style main building designed by Delano and Aldrich, a 1974 Brutalist wing, and Hackerman House, an 1850s Italianate mansion that houses the Asian art collection.

A 2021 FCI Implementation Grant supported the purchase of three energy-efficient humidifiers. A 2026 FCI Scoping Grant will support an energy audit and solar photovoltaic feasibility study, including documentation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and steam distribution systems to establish a baseline and identify reduction strategies. The study will provide the Walters with a comprehensive picture of its current energy use and a clear pathway for capital investments that reduce both costs and emissions.
