Los Angeles, CA
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) is dedicated to supporting contemporary art and fostering community engagement through a broad range of exhibitions, programs, and initiatives. With a mission to provide access to transformative art experiences, ICA LA prioritizes sustainability and climate resilience as part of its long-term commitment to reducing its environmental impact. Their focus on inclusivity, collaboration, and environmental responsibility aligns with their goal of creating a sustainable cultural institution that contributes meaningfully to both the arts and the global climate conversation.
ICA LA is currently working with Los Angeles-based Bestor Architecture to spearhead a plan to improve the museum’s existing building in downtown Los Angeles. With resilience and sustainability as a priority, FCI funding will support an ASHRAE energy audit. Realized at the outset of the design stage of building renovation, this project intends to quantify ICA LA’s carbon footprint, identify areas for improvement, and support a holistic sustainability plan. Data from the audit will inform next steps related to the building’s renovation to ultimately make ICA LA a more accessible and sustainable institution in the long-term.
Milestones
Conduct ASHRAE energy audit to quantify ICA LA’s carbon footprint and identify specific areas for improvement
Develop and inform ongoing renovation plans, ensuring that sustainable design principles are integrated into the building's redevelopment
Expand ICA LA's climate network, building relationships with climate experts, architects, and sustainability-focused organizations
Set an example for other cultural institutions
