Grunwald Gallery of Art

Bloomington, IN

The Grunwald Gallery of Art is a major contemporary art space at Indiana University Bloomington (IU), located in the 1962 Fine Arts Building within the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design. The Gallery presents exhibitions by established and emerging professional artists alongside works by graduating MFA and BFA students, emphasizing the integration of contemporary education and practice. With 5,200 square feet across three gallery spaces, the Grunwald functions as a visual arts laboratory, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration with scholars and practitioners across the sciences, music, architecture, and design.

An FCI Technical Assistance Grant will support a consultant-led comprehensive audit, scope and design development, and construction cost estimation for the Gallery's facility. The project addresses two priority areas identified by a university energy engineer: modernization of the building's original pneumatic HVAC controls system (expected to reduce over-ventilation and enable occupancy setback), and replacement of the outdated fluorescent and track lighting systems with energy-efficient LED alternatives. Together, these measures are expected to achieve annual reductions of approximately 11,000 kWh of electricity, 280 MMBtu of steam, and 30 metric tons of COâ‚‚-equivalent emissions.
