Santa Barbara Museum of Art
Santa Barbara, CA
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) is the premier visual art institution on California's Central Coast, holding a distinguished collection of more than 27,000 works ranging from ancient to contemporary. Founded in 1941, the museum occupies a landmark 1914 Spanish Colonial building in downtown Santa Barbara and presents a dynamic program of exhibitions, education, and community events that serve more than 100,000 visitors annually. Committed to long-term sustainability, the museum is working to establish formal energy baselines and guide future capital investments.
A 2026 FCI Scoping Grant will support energy benchmarking, rooftop solar feasibility assessment, and lighting system evaluation to establish a formal energy baseline and inform future capital projects of the over 67,000-square-foot space. The study will provide the museum with the data and strategic framework needed to pursue meaningful reductions in energy use and emissions across its historic downtown campus.
