Starworks

Starworks is a nonprofit arts organization in Star, North Carolina, dedicated to studio arts in clay, glass, and iron casting, serving artists through residencies, educational workshops, and open studio programming in a rural Piedmont community. The organization provides professional-level access to kilns, glass furnaces, and iron casting equipment while contributing to the economic and cultural vitality of the rural South. Starworks's facilities support intensive studio practice and attract artists from across the region and country.

A 2026 FCI Implementation Grant will support replacement of a 13-year-old electric glass-art furnace with a newer model offering improved insulation, more precise temperature control, and reduced electricity demand for equivalent professional studio output. The project is expected to reduce energy use by 15–30 percent over ten years, providing Starworks with a more efficient and reliable studio environment while reducing the organization's carbon footprint.
