Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
San Francisco, CA
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) is a contemporary arts center in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, presenting visual art, performance, and social practice that connects art and civic life. Founded in 1993, YBCA occupies a landmark building in Yerba Buena Gardens and serves as one of the Bay Area's most important platforms for contemporary art, with a particular commitment to artists of color and work that addresses issues of equity and justice. The organization is committed to sustainability as an expression of its civic values.
A 2023 FCI Implementation Grant supported high-priority HVAC energy conservation upgrades at YBCA’s campus, addressing measures identified in a 2018 energy audit and advancing the organization’s commitment to reducing CO₂e emissions in compliance with San Francisco’s climate action requirements.
A 2026 FCI Implementation Grant will support LED conversion of lighting systems across the museum's visual arts spaces, providing approximately 1,022,000 kWh in annual energy savings and $22,000 in annual cost savings. The project represents a major step in YBCA's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining high-quality exhibition conditions for the visual arts.
