Espacio Santurce

San Juan, PR

Espacio Santurce is a contemporary visual arts space in San Juan, Puerto Rico, dedicated to presenting experimental and innovative art by local and international artists in a city at the forefront of the Caribbean art scene. Located in the Santurce neighborhood, one of San Juan's most vibrant cultural districts, Espacio Santurce presents gallery exhibitions, public programs, and artist support initiatives that contribute to a thriving visual arts ecosystem on the island. Like many Puerto Rican cultural institutions, Espacio Santurce faces significant operational challenges from the territory's chronically unstable power grid.

An FCI Implementation Grant will support LED gallery lighting, high-efficiency electric HVAC, and a rooftop 30 kW solar array paired with 30 kWh battery storage at the contemporary arts space. The project is expected to nearly halve net purchased electricity, reducing annual usage from approximately 210,000 to 110,000 kWh, while providing the grid-independent resilience needed for consistent programming and operations.
