The Griot Museum of Black History

St. Louis, MO

The Griot Museum of Black History is St. Louis's Black-led history museum, dedicated to the preservation and celebration of African American history, culture, and achievement. Through exhibitions, educational programs, cultural events, and community partnerships, the museum honors the legacy and contributions of Black Americans and serves as a vital cultural anchor in the St. Louis region. Named for the West African tradition of oral historians and storytellers, the museum presents the past as a living, relevant force in contemporary life.

An FCI Catalyst Grant, awarded as part of the 2026 St. Louis Counterpublic triennial cohort, will support the installation of solar panels, a mini-split HVAC unit, and energy-efficient outdoor lighting at the museum's campus. These improvements support the Museum's long-term path toward net-zero campus operations while reducing energy costs and strengthening the museum's capacity to operate resilient, uninterrupted programming for the community it serves.
