A.I.R. Gallery
New York, NY
A.I.R. Gallery is the United States' first artist-run cooperative gallery dedicated to women and nonbinary artists. Founded in 1972 in SoHo by a group of twelve women artists, A.I.R. has championed experimental and activist visual art practice for more than five decades, presenting the work of hundreds of artists through exhibitions, residencies, mentorship programs, and public forums. A.I.R. continues its legacy as an essential platform for underrepresented voices in the contemporary art landscape.
A.I.R. Gallery is relocating to a new facility in the West Village in Fall 2026. At the new facility, a 2026 FCI Catalyst Grant will support replacement of the building’s three-decade-old HVAC system with an energy-efficient water source heat pump. The upgrade is expected to reduce HVAC-related energy use by approximately 35–42 percent, meaningfully lowering the building’s carbon footprint while providing more stable climate control for exhibitions and artists in residence.
