Skirball Cultural Center
Los Angeles, CA
The Skirball Cultural Center is a leading Jewish cultural institution dedicated to fostering human connection, cultural understanding, and civic engagement through the arts. Home to a permanent collection of over 30,000 objects—including Jewish ceremonial objects, fine art, and historical artifacts—the Skirball places visual arts at the heart of its mission. Core exhibitions such as Visions and Values and Noah’s Ark use immersive storytelling to explore heritage, resilience, and sustainability. Through rotating exhibitions, public programs, and educational initiatives, the Skirball engages more than 200,000 annual visitors across communities and generations.
To ensure long-term environmental and institutional sustainability, the Skirball will develop a comprehensive Energy Master Plan. Conducted in partnership with an energy-efficiency engineering firm, the plan will include detailed facility assessments, energy modeling, and phased implementation strategies to modernize infrastructure. Priority areas include HVAC upgrades, lighting retrofits, window and skylight replacements, and irrigation improvements—all designed to reduce energy use, stabilize climate control for art preservation, and prepare for on-site renewable energy. This strategic effort will reduce operating costs, cut emissions, and ensure the Skirball’s continued leadership as a responsible steward of cultural and environmental resources.
