Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

La Jolla, CA

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and presenting works of art created since 1950, with a mission to serve diverse audiences through innovative exhibitions and programs that engage and inspire.

FCI funding will support an initiative to assess, plan, and prioritize climate-friendly modifications for MCASD's 25,000-square-foot off-site storage facility that houses 90 percent of the collection. Scopes for building envelope improvements, HVAC modifications, and potential energy recovery systems while maintaining conservation standards, reducing costs and carbon footprint will be developed. The project will determine building envelope upgrades, humidity regulation, cooling systems, and solar options as part of an institution-wide energy evaluation assessment to prioritize sustainable interventions to reduce energy consumption and fossil fuel dependence.

Milestones

  • Evaluate air handling systems and building envelope to improve energy efficiency

  • Prioritize climate-friendly upgrades without compromising conservation standards

  • Reduce fossil fuel dependency and operational costs
