The Contemporary Austin

Austin, TX

The Contemporary Austin (TCA)  is dedicated to engaging and inspiring diverse audiences through the presentation of contemporary art. Founded in 1943, TCA is Austin’s only museum dedicated to commissioning and exhibiting work by living artists and creating opportunities for audiences to engage directly with art of the current moment. With a focus on both innovative exhibitions and public programs, TCA offers unique cultural experiences at two distinctive sites: the historic Laguna Gloria and the urban Jones Center. As part of its commitment to sustainability, TCA is integrating energy efficiency and climate-conscious strategies into its operations, ensuring that its spaces are environmentally responsible and future-ready.

As part of a multi-year strategic plan, TCA will undertake major capital projects to preserve the historic Driscoll Villa at Laguna Gloria and improve climate control and energy efficiency at both sites across all 9 buildings. FCI funding will support a site-wide energy audit (depending on the building, ASHRAE Level 1, 2, or 3) to assess outdated infrastructure, identify safety concerns, and explore energy-saving opportunities. Findings will help to inform the development of future capital projects, including shifting to energy-efficient equipment and renewable energy sources where possible.

Milestones

  • Identify areas where energy consumption is excessive

  • Incorporate energy-efficient equipment and renewable energy sources

  • Upgrade to energy-efficient systems and address outdated infrastructure

  • Establish a reputation as a leader in sustainability within the arts community
